Beloved Jazzy

By: Annmarie Statly

We have had some very sad days in our house recently and I write this with a broken heart – we had to part with our beloved Jazzy of 13 years recently.  She was a special dog that created an unbreakable bond in our family.  We share so many inside jokes, funny names and stories only the five of us really understand.  To say these memories brought us to tears recently would be an understatement.

What is it about a family pet that just nestles inside your heart?  I truly feel they are one of the family, it’s as simple as that.  They are a constant.  Always by your side.  You are feeding them, letting them out, taking them on walks, scheduling their haircuts, their vet appointments, making arrangements for their care when you are gone.  You know when they don’t feel good, you nurse them back to health, they make you smile when you enter the door and when you pet them you can simply feel your body relax.  They come up next to your bed, bright and early in the morning naturally, wagging their tale and nuzzling their nose into your face because they are just simply always excited to see you.  How can you not love this and miss this with an unbelievable intensity?!  They always love you.

Our beloved Jazzy came into our house when our kids were 9, 7 and 4.  Talk about growing up together!  She was a sibling so the 4 of them grew up together.  A family pet teaches kids empathy and an understanding that others need care and attention and the kids were amazing with Jazzy!

There will never be another Jazzy.  She was a special dog and we will miss her forever.  We will eventually bring a new puppy into our home and this puppy too will warm our hearts and provide us with companionship and love.

Rainbow Bridge

“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…”
